I think I’ll stop dancing… September 19, 2007

Filed under: Life in general — mrsbraun @ 3:34pm

Okay, you’re at a club or a bar or somewhere else where people are dancing and normally, you’d join in, right? Well, not me. At least not anymore. I’ve sat along the sidelines more than not lately and I’m glad for it. Watching people dance is pretty entertaining, mainly because 95 percent of dancing people look really funny….I just looked at some photos of a work event and man, do the dancers look funny!

I used to have more rhythm back in the day and never hesitated for a second to jump out on the dance floor. Back in the day though, standing around and bouncing your head was cool (maybe b/c I was younger?) and certain choreographed moves required some type of coordination and dance ability. Today, people just move around in random waves of strange motion…a way of expressing themselves, perhaps? Pure lack of coordination? More than likely…

Mike and Doug are officially Braun Realty!!! Doug studied for and passed his broker’s exam so now they can operate as their own entity. Things are going great with their project - they had their first closing this past Friday afternoon and expect to have two more closings in the next few weeks. The warmer weather means they can get their dudes back out to the site to finish up some work that simply can’t be done when the weather is too cold. Everything is coming along really well!

Other great news on the job front - Dad works for Park Jeep! Yay! From the sound of it, seems like things are going really well and he’s selling cars up the wazoo. We’re happy to be one of his first few customers. We’ve (Mike) placed an order for a Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited (4-door) which we’re (Mike is) leasing for two years. The final payment went through on the Saturn yesterday and we turn her in in a few weeks. She was a great car! I highly recommend a Vue to anyone in the market for a new vehicle with some space.

Toodles!

Econ = ewe February 21, 2007

Filed under: Life in general — mrsbraun @ 7:47pm

Okay, so I was just on a conference call that was all about economics. All I can say is that I think econ is worse than math for me. I simply don’t get it.

It was part of a Mini-MBA class I took through my employer. I found all the sessions to be really interesting as well as the textbook. The book/class covers nearly everything you’d cover in an MBA program, in 8 easy-to-read chapters and four “Live Meeting” sessions via the Internet. Its a great tool for people who don’t want to go back to school and go through the motions of getting an actual MBA. Of course, when all is said and done, I’m not graduating with an actual MBA, only a certificate of completion, but the offering sure is appreciated! Its the beauty of working for an employee owned company - we get to say what kinds of sessions we’d like to participate in, because we’re investing our own money into it. Doesn’t get any better than that!

The Melting Pot February 4, 2007

Had dinner with friends last night at The Melting Pot and really enjoyed it. Its the kind of place you go to if you’re not sure what you feel like as you get a bunch of different meats to dip into your chosen cooking style. While it was pretty good, its also a little spendy. But, if you factor in that you get cheese, meats & seafood, salad and chocolate, I supposed its about right. Good stuff!

Howdy folks February 3, 2007

Hi!

Wow, its been quite some time since I  posted last. I guess I really don’t have too much to report! Work is going well for me- I just finished up a hefty travel schedule (Minneapolis for 3 weeks, Orlando, FL for 1) and am enjoying some time at home for a few weeks before it picks up again. Unfortnately, we had two gals leave the agribusiness team at PSB so what I thought was going to be a light travel schedule, now looks to be the same as last year. Oh well.

All is well with the Braun team. They are nearly complete with their first project and Mike and Doug have three under contract (soon to be eight) with one closing in the next week or so. Its picking up for them, so they’re on the prowl for some new land and are looking in the Ohio area. They’ve also broken away from ReMax and are now their own full-fledged team- Braun Realty. We’re proud of all the work they’re putting into making this a huge success.

The dogs are good - Winona’s loosing some pounds and Kenai’s just fine where he’s at. Both were at the 100lb mark about a month and half ago. Too heavy for Winona and just right for Kenai. We’ve been taking them out to the dog park a lot lately and have really enjoyed it. The last time we were out, it was snowing and pleasant. We thought we’d be the only ones out due to nasty road conditions, but there were several others there including two husky-malamute mixes whom Winona and Kenai bonded with instantly. They followed each other around in a little pack :)

Kenai is friendly with every dog and just searches for a new one to say hello to and chase around. If there were a cruise director at the dog park, it would be him. Winona’s friendly too for the most part. We find it works best to bring her in on a leash, then let her off once she’s gotten to know the other pups there.  She operates off her leash better than on- called leash aggression, which I learned from my expert dog behaviorist/trainer sister-in-law.  No, that’s not an official title, but it ought to be :)

Its cold! Old man winter decided to real his ugly head our way after giving us some very pleasant and unseasonablely warm temps. It’ll be bitterly cold by Monday. Ick! At least we only have about a month and half left of a real winter, so we’ll all live I think.

Toodles!

Jos

Pluto is still a planet!! September 15, 2006

Filed under: Life in general — mrsbraun @ 2:00pm

Comical, yet annoying…

At a recent meeting of the Madison City Council, important agenda items were pushed aside to discuss whether or not Madison would comply with the recent ruling by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) that Pluto will no longer be considered a planet in the solar system. Its now a “dwarf” planet and to Madison liberals, apparently that term is indicates the IAU doesn’t tolerate diversity. Another reason the IAU removed Pluto’s full-fledged planet status is because Pluto’s “orbit intersects the orbit of Neptune and is somewhat elliptical…”. Dragging the discussion on to fill time, the Madison City Council decided this IAU action indicates the group doesn’t “…tolerate planets pursuing different lifestyles…”.

With that, Madison still considers Pluto a planet…who really gives a ratt’s ass? Apparently I do, but only because my tax dollars paid for this ridiculous discussion and I wasn’t even invited.

If it sounds too ridiculous to be true, check this out: http://legistar.cityofmadison.com/DetailReport/Reports/Temp/972006122548.pdf

Vacation postponed September 4, 2006

Filed under: Life in general — mrsbraun @ 11:31am

Well, our vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico has been postponed due to hurricane John, which brushed by the resort town the day we were to arrive. Lots and lots of rain, but no major damage. The hurricane hit La Paz head-on, which is about 90 miles north of Cabo. Thankfully, the storm was downgraded significantly by the time it hit so only minor damage was reported. It was a category four before it hit the Baja. Airports where shut down for two days, so we would have spent a couple days in Newark, NJ before heading out to Cabo, but the vacation would have been cut short by a few days and, we just weren’t sure how dangerous the storm was going to be so it was better that we canceled and reschedule for another time. I think we’re going Oct. 28-Nov. 4 and headed to Cancun.

We spent the weekend camping in Winona - visited some friends, hit 3rd street, golfed and fished. We had a really nice time!
